Data Protection
From 25 May 2018, the existing Data Protection Act 1998 has been replaced by new legislation in the form of the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and a new Data Protection Act.
The GDPR introduces a duty for public authorities, including the IJB, to appoint a data protection officer (DPO).
The DPO monitors internal compliance, informs and advises on data protection obligations, provides advice regarding data protection impact assessments and acts as a contact point.
As the DPO function can be a shared role with other public authorities, the IJB has appointed the council’s DPO.
