Good conversations and positive outcomes are clear strengths of Self-Directed Support (SDS) in Moray
The Care Inspectorate has published its report on Self Directed support in Moray. The report is part of the thematic review process that has been undertaken in several areas of the country.
The report makes it clear that our staff teams, partner agencies, service users and their carers are all aware of self-directed support, and its principles are imbedded in the process used by Health & Social Care Moray (HSCM).
The report highlighted the success of the Moray partners in care (3 tier policy) that is based on person-centred approach to ensuring that conversations happen at each stage when looking at what the supported person seeks to achieve.
Commenting on the report, Chief Social Work Officer Jane Mackie said: "We are pleased that our focus on Self Directed Support and continuous improvement has been acknowledged by the Care Inspectorate. To have our commitment to a person-centred approach highlighted is key for us, and we will continue to work on ensuring that supported people, their unpaid carers and families, have choice and control in how they access and utilise support services.
"This is a positive report into our valued service for hundreds of Moray residents, and we have clear goals for continuing to improve what we do."

Public meeting to launch Keith and East Locality Project
Health & Social Care Moray is embarking on the first stage of a project to provide new health and care facilities in Keith with a public meeting taking place next week.
Exploration of the opportunities that could be delivered from a purpose-built hub is part of a wider programme to establish a future model of service provision that meets the needs of residents living across the wider East locality.

A Project Board, headed by Pam Gowans, Chief Officer of Health & Social Care Moray, is leading the preparation of the Initial Agreement (IA) that must be submitted to access funding.
The document will set out why new facilities are needed, the indicative costs and the services that could be delivered from the new hub. The process of delivering the IA requires the active engagement of the public, staff and key partners including the Third Sector.
Mrs Gowans said: “We are ambitious in our desire to form a model of health and care for this locality which is fit for the future, which improves service delivery, people’s experiences of services and leads to better health and wellbeing outcomes.
“We want to come together with all stakeholders to understand their ambitions for health and care in their community and draw on their interests to plan, develop and deliver this project together.”
An initial public meeting, led by Mrs Gowans, takes place on Tuesday 23 July in the Longmore Hall, Keith, at 7pm, to launch the programme.
A series of workshops and engagement activities to support the community to drive the design and delivery of the new health and care hub and future services is being arranged.

Loxa Court - 30 New Homes With Care Facilities for Elgin
Health & Social Care Moray (HSCM) have established an exciting working partnership with Hanover Scotland and Allied Healthcare. The partnership project is focused on the delivery of the new Loxa Court independent living area situated in Hamilton Gardens housing development in the north west of Elgin.
Loxa Court, a purpose built housing development providing housing with care facilities for those including those with age impaired frailty. There will be 30 properties in total for the use predominately for the over 60s; five of these are designed for wheelchair users and another five for those with dementia.
Elgin resident, Alastair McPherson, won the recent naming competition for the development; Loxa being the Roman name for the nearby River Lossie.
HSCM project lead Lesley Attridge said: "The Loxa Court project gives us a great opportunity to expand on our experience of working in partnership with other agencies. Hanover Scotland are providing the buildings and the landlord function with Allied Healthcare are providing the care component.
"We are hugely excited by the project and as we near the completion date, it is fantastic to see so much interest in the new properties. We know delivering care at the person’s home is key to trying to maintain a good quality of life, and it is great that we are able to do so at Loxa Court."
Hanover’s Director of Customer Services Chris Milburn said: "Loxa Court is well on the way to becoming a  fantastic new Hanover development in Elgin, which will provide much needed housing for people in need of a high quality home.  The positive joint working with Moray Council, HSCM and Allied Healthcare will ensure that the development is an exemplar of what residents can expect from Extra Care and Amenity housing.  We are rightly proud of this new addition to Hanover's portfolio of properties in Moray, which demonstrates our long standing and continuing commitment to the area. There has been a fantastic response so far and we are very confident that there will be high demand for the new properties.  If you or someone you know is interested in living on Loxa Court please contact Hanover’s Elgin office on 01343 548585."
Steve Gotts, Registered ManagerAllied Healthcare, said: "We have only recently become part of this project however recruitment is already well under way. We are seeing a great deal of interest from all over Moray and are delighted by the number of applicants who are new to the care sector, as well as those with a great deal of experience looking forward to delivering outcome focused, specialist care within a state of the art environment."
Loxa Court is expected to open in Autumn 2019.
